Pedestrian Planning
The City of Sioux Falls Planning and Development Services Department is updating the City’s Pedestrian Plan. The Pedestrian Plan includes recommendations and policies leading Sioux Falls to be more walkable and a pedestrian-friendly community.
During the month of September 2019, an online survey was available giving us input about our community’s future walkability. The primary objectives that came from the survey were: Design, Maintenance and Education.
Interested citizens formed a pedestrian plan steering committee; this committee will provide a forum for citizen input during the pedestrian plan update process.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has designated October as the first-ever national Pedestrian Safety Month. “At some point in the day, we are all pedestrians – Especially right now, when everyone wants to get outside for some fresh air,” said NHTSA Deputy Administrator James Owens. “Everyone has a role to play in ensuring pedestrian safety. We must keep working to reduce pedestrian deaths from traffic crashes and this first-ever Pedestrian Safety Month will help save lives in communities across the country. “
