Waste Container Ordinance Changes
On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, the Sioux Falls City Council passed a revision to Chapter 57 of the City’s ordinance concerning garbage container placement and waste collection. Commercial haulers are now allowed to provide a curbside pickup option along with the building side or “valet” service. This revised ordinance will go into effect on Monday, December 20, 2021.
The revision also clarified where waste containers need to be stored when not on collection day. Garbage, recycling, and yard waste containers should be placed inside a structure or adjacent to your building in an inconspicuous place. Containers can be pulled out for curbside collection no earlier than 12 noon the day before collection and must be returned to the building by 11 p.m. on the day of collection.
Commercial haulers will be communicating with their customers about the services they will provide. Citizens should contact their haulers if they have specific questions about their waste collection service.
