Expert to Explore South Dakota’s Quilting Heritage

A presentation by Mary Reecy Fitzgerald, author of South Dakota Quilts and Quiltmakers, will focus on features of classic South Dakota quilts, including South Dakota Star, patchwork, and Nine Patch block designs. Director of the South Dakota Quilt Documentation Project, she has interviewed quilters and examined over 1,600 quilts across the state.

The program, presented in conjunction with the 2019 One Book Siouxland, Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser, is set for Sunday, April 7, 2019, 1:30–3:30 p.m. at Siouxland Libraries Downtown Library, 200 North Dakota Avenue.

Those who attend may bring family or heirloom quilts about which they’d like more information. Fitzgerald will discuss the date, style, and pattern of up to 12 quilts. Quilt registration is required at 367-8700.
