Siouxland Libraries’ Food for Fines Benefits Donors and Recipients
Siouxland Libraries is offering a 50-cent discount on fines for each nonperishable, non-expired food item donated through Friday, November 30, at every branch. Canned meat, canned dinners, and boxed cereal are in particular demand. Food for Fines benefits food pantries in Baltic, Brandon, Garretson, and Hartford as well as Feeding South Dakota in Sioux Falls.

Food for Fines does not cover accounts in debt collection. Please be sure food items have not passed their “use by” dates.
Feeding South Dakota, which serves all 66 South Dakota counties, reports that:
- One of every eight individuals in South Dakota is food insecure (lacks reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food).
- One in every six children under age 18 (39,030) is at risk of going hungry in South Dakota.
- 13.7 percent of individuals in South Dakota live at or below the poverty line ($24,003 is the income threshold for a family of four).
