Water Rescue Incident at Falls Park

At 12 noon on March 18, 2018, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a water rescue at Falls Park.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with one fire engine, two Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) units that specialize in water rescue, and an incident commander.

The first arriving crew was told there was a five-year-old female who fell into the water. USAR crews deployed two rescue swimmers into the water and began to break the ice where she was last seen. She was found unresponsive and pulseless by the rescue swimmers shortly after deployment and was transferred to Paramedics Plus for patient care. Unfortunately, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and she was later pronounced dead.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted by the Sioux Falls Police Department and Paramedics Plus Ambulance during this event.
