Multi-Use Sports Field Coming Soon to Sanford Sports Complex
Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is excited to announce construction is under way on a new multi-use sports field at Sanford Sports Complex. This project will create one new athletic field that will serve as the home to rugby, which used to reside in Marion Park.
“Whenever possible, we construct fields and facilities that can accommodate a variety of sports such as football, soccer, lacrosse, rugby, and more. It is a cost-effective way to ensure multiple sports can benefit from new athletic fields,” states Mike Patten, Park Development Specialist. “This new field will be a great addition to the Sanford Sports Complex, creating more space to host a variety of activities.”
RMS Drainage & Excavation has been selected as the contractor for the new field. The project will cost approximately $181,000.
“Dakota United Rugby, along with all rugby in South Dakota, is excited and proud to call this new rugby field home,” states Patrick Artz, director of Dakota United Rugby.
The new field is being constructed in collaboration with a large Public Works storm water improvement project in western Sioux Falls. The project will create significant improvements to drainage in the Marion Park neighborhood, construct a new sports field at Sanford Sports Complex, and make exciting upgrades to Marion Park. Improvements at Marion Park will begin later this summer.
