Lewis Avenue and Walnut Street Utility Improvements

Project Update 7/30/2021 

  • The Contractor has completed installation of the new sanitary sewer and has begun work on replacement of the water main in Lewis Avenue. 
  • Due to difficult soil conditions and deep sanitary sewer installation, the contractor is behind the original schedule.
  • Work on Lewis Avenue is now anticipated to be completed by the end of August, weather permitting.

Commuter Route Information: 

  • Lewis Avenue is closed from Spruce Street to Russell Street.
  • Closure is anticipated to last until the end of August.

Project Summary:

This project will reconstruct Lewis Avenue from Spruce Street to Russell Street, and Walnut Street from Lewis Ave to St. Paul Ave due to the deteriorated condition of the underground utilities. Improvements include new water main, sanitary sewer, and asphalt surfacing. The project will also include sanitary sewer replacement in St. Paul Ave from Walnut Street to Mulberry Street.
