Rate: $29.00 - $41.00 per hour

The City of Sioux Falls Health Department is accepting applications for an interim Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator. The qualified applicant should be a detail-oriented person with excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects in a public health environment. The Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator will plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive externally-focused community engagement strategy for the Health Department, with the goal of advancing community health. Activities will include; collaborating with department staff to strategize, coordinate, develop, and implement marketing, communications, and community engagement plans in support of the department’s mission, goals, and initiatives; creating, managing, and implementing comprehensive multimedia programming, including internet, social media platforms, website management, and other digital communication channels, for the Health Department to communicate the department’s activities and initiatives, and inform the community on topical health issues; researching public opinion, knowledge, and perception on key health issues and engaging diverse internal and external stakeholder segments to build awareness and effectively disseminate accurate and timely health information; and forging relationships with stakeholders and facilitating outreach to diverse and medically-underserved populations to advance health equity.

This is an interim position, meaning a non-civil service 40 hours per week position with no benefits except access to the City of Sioux Falls’ health insurance program.

Qualifications and Skills:

A bachelor’s degree in public health, communications, social sciences, or other related field is required.  Wage is based on experience, and two (2) years’ experience in a community engagement, communications, public relations, or public health position is preferred.
