Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Sioux Falls

Emergency Medical Services in Sioux Falls are provided by several agencies.

  • Metro Communications provides 911 call taking and Emergency Medical Dispatch for Minnehaha County and the City of Sioux Falls.
  • Sioux Falls Police Department officers are all trained in first aid, CPR and the use of defibrillators. An automated external defibrillator (AED) is carried on every police vehicle.
  • Sioux Falls Fire Rescue provides basic first response including first aid, CPR, AED's. An AED is carried on every Sioux Falls Fire Rescue vehicle.
  • PatientCare EMS is the City's contracted provider of advanced life support and ambulance transport within the City of Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls CARES

CARES is the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival, a program to help communities determine standard outcome measures for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Sioux Falls has participated CARES since 2007. REMSA uses this information to assess the EMS system’s approach to cardiac arrest.
