Retrofit Cathodic Protection- 26th Street

Project Update 9/17/2021

  • Phase 2 is complete and Phase 3 is underway.
  • The project is currently on schedule to be complete by the end of October .

Commuter Route Information: 

  • The westbound lanes of West 26th Street are closed between Berkshire Boulevard and Sertoma Avenue. 
  • One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction in the eastbound lanes..

Project Milestones 

  1. Phase 1A: Complete cathodic protection on the west side of W 26th Street & S Sertoma Avenue intersection.
  2. Phase 1B: Complete cathodic protection on the east side of W 26th Street & S Sertoma Avenue intersection.
  3. Phase 2: Complete cathodic protection on W 26th Street from S Sertoma Avenue to S Deerberry Trail.
  4. Phase 3: Complete cathodic protection on W 26th Street from S Deerberry Trail to S Cambridge Avenue.
  5. Phase 4: Complete cathodic protection on W 26th Street from S Cambridge Avenue to S Marion Road.
  6. Phase 5A: Complete cathodic protection on the west side of W 26th Street & Marion Road.
  7. Phase 5B: Complete cathodic protection on the east side of W 26th Street & S Marion Road.

Contract Amount: 

$627,000

Project Summary:

The project consists of cathodic protection through anode CAD welding to the existing 20” water main along 26th Street from Sertoma Avenue to Marion Road. The pavement will be cored every twenty feet to access the water main and install the anode bags. The anode bags are designed to reduce corrosion and extend the life of the water main.
