Despite the challenges of COVID-19, we are moving into 2021 in a position of strength and opportunity. While we have remained focused on current challenges, my administration and our City team have taken key steps this year to ensure our city’s post-pandemic resiliency.
The Sioux Falls River Greenway is one of the city’s most popular destinations for residents and visitors. The River Greenway includes more than 28 miles of paved bike trails that allow pedestrians, cyclists, and other trail users a safe and pleasant way to view some of the most beautiful landscapes the community has to offer.
Siouxland Libraries specializes in life-long learning and supports your interests through classes, events, databases, and online services. Whether you are coming to us as a new reader, using our resources to further your education, or attending our classes and events, the library promotes the philosophy that by learning for life, the individuals in our communities have a greater opportunity for success.
Sioux Falls residents and visitors don’t have to go far to experience a dynamic parks and recreation system. The endless quality-of-life opportunities the parks and recreation system offers include more than 80 parks; the Midco® Aquatic Center; 30+ miles of paved bike trail; numerous theatre and cultural arts events; athletic and recreational play; and much more!
Falls Community Health is a community health medical and dental clinic with a mission to reduce or eliminate health disparities. The clinic serves patients at four sites. The main site is located at 521 N. Main Ave., and three school-based sites are located at Hawthorne Elementary, Terry Redlin Elementary, and Hayward Elementary. All sites are available to patients regardless of ability to pay.
In 2015, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was presented with an ISO Class 1 designation, which is only given to fire departments in the United States that meet the highest standards of response capabilities. The department also maintained its accreditation with the Center for Public Safety Excellence. It now is recognized as one of only 35 fire departments across the country with both of these achievements.
The Sioux Falls Police Department and 173,300 Sioux Falls residents work together each day to make a positive difference in the city we love. Our mission is to partner with the community to serve, protect and promote quality of life. The Sioux Falls Police Department embraces the philosophy of community-oriented policing, and many different outreach events take place throughout the year to connect officers to neighborhoods.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the City is committed to maintaining the business operations and essential services while making efforts to protect the health of City employees and slow the spread of COVID-19. City staff will continue to work during this time while exercising CDC guidelines for social distancing and cleaning.
