STRIDER BIKE SERIES

SPECIAL OLYMPICS SOUTH DAKOTA

This program gives kids ages 2–6 years old the opportunity to get the feel for riding a bike with the comfort of their feet on the ground. Bikes will be provided. Helmets are required, please bring your own. Registration is required.

ARROWHEAD PARK

Children will explore the nature around them as they partake in a storytime hike through Arrowhead Park, and complete a nature craft. Over the course of these two sessions, your child will further develop their powers of observation and creativity while exploring a natural environment.

Music and movement are both great ways for your little ones to learn and explore. We will enjoy music, while running around. When the music stops, we will find diff erent colors, work on balance, or counting while doing an exercise. There’s no winning or losing; the point is just to get moving. PRESCHOOL GAME TIME

AGES: 4–5

Whether at a party or a play date, preschoolers love games. No longer toddlers, they have a growing interest in playing with other kids. Physically, they’re now steady on their feet and learning to hop, skip, jump, and even somersault. Preschoolers are ready for games with simple rules. Classic preschool games are much more than just fun for children. They’re actually an essential part of the learning process, helping kids bond with their friends, burn off excess energy, and teaching skills that will help them later in life. Join us for 45 minutes of games such as Head & Shoulders, Simon Says, What Time Is It Mr. Fox, and many others.

MOM & ME CANVAS PAINTING

Bring your little ones to a class of crafting. Using tape, finger paints, and a canvas, you and your little one will create a piece of art that will look beautiful on your wall and will be a great memorabilia for years to come. Paint and other supplies will be used in this class, so dress for mess. All supplies are provided.

Gather your friends at our “house” to play and don’t get your house messy. Our play groups are open for kids from infant age to prekindergarten age. We will provide the equipment and toys. PRESCHOOL ENGINEERING

At the preschool level, introducing the engineering and design process is a natural fit. Preschoolers already like to build and problem solve. In this class, we will be building with colored jumbo craft sticks and cups. Your preschooler will be challenged to see what they can build on their own and as a small group.

The Sioux Falls Area Running Club and Runner’s Block, along with SFPR, are hosting three kids’ cross-country meets this fall. The cross-country series is for children, kindergarten through sixth grade. Check-in for the meets will be in the picnic shelter. Registration begins at 4 p.m., with races beginning at 4:30 p.m. No need to participate in all three meets.

SCHOOL’S OUT DAY CAMP

Participants will enjoy a funfilled day of activities such as games, sports, crafts, stories, music and dance, and social skill development. Program will be held at a 10:1 ratio of staff to participants. Programming runs 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with drop off times beginning at 7:30 am and pick up time concluding at 5:30 pm. Pack a nonperishable sack lunch.

CREATING YOUR OWN PENDANTS

Create beautiful and unique jewelry pendants with alcohol ink. Learn a new skill as you put together a couple pendants to take home with you. You will enjoy wearing these pendants with all of your different outfits.

GLOW HIKE

GREAT BEAR RECREATION AREA | AGES: 6+

Hiking in nature has been shown to be a powerful anxiety and stress reliever for people of all ages. This adventurous night hike is recommended for participants ages 6 and up that are able to hike at least one mile on sometimes uneven terrain. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Glow sticks will be provided, but a flashlight or headlamp is recommended. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle. Registration required.

Jingle bells go hand in hand with the holiday season! The ideas are really endless with all the fun crafts you can create with these gold jingle bells. Creating a DIY holiday jingle bell frame will be so simple to make, but it will add such glitz and glam to your seasonal decor! Plus, you won’t be able to help yourself every time you walk by but to give it a gentle jingle to hear the lovely sound it makes!

Dog yoga! You guessed it! We will be off ering a nice and relaxing yoga session in partnership with Sanford Wellness, while our dogs choose to either participate or go play by themselves. This class will also be providing people-pet bonding time and a chance for dogs to socialize. Bringing your dog is preferred but not mandatory to attend class! All ages/levels welcome.

Water aerobics is a low-impact exercise. The expected resistance of the water against your body helps tone your muscles and increase your strength. Water aerobics is easier on your bones and joints than running, but still provides the benefits of an aerobic workout. If you have arthritis, are rehabilitating an injury, or just enjoy pool fitness classes, water aerobics can help improve your health.

LINE DANCING CLASS

Have you always wanted to learn how to line dance, but never had the time or opportunity? Join Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation along with Date Night Dance Company for an evening learning the basic movements of this enjoyable pastime. Line dance is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows, all facing either each other or in the same direction, and executing the steps at the same time. Come try it out for yourself and become the eye of the party next time you see a dance floor!

Cooking at home can be a daunting task, but a rewarding one for your diet and lifestyle (and your wallet). Making small changes in your diet is important to your heart health. If you’re ready to start cooking at home, this 45-minute cooking class, presented by Live Well Sioux Falls with the support from the American Heart Association, will give you the basics you need to make low-cost, heart-heathy meals. GREAT BEAR RECREATION AREA AGES: 6+

Hiking in nature has been shown to be a powerful anxiety and stress reliever for people of all ages. This adventurous night hike is recommended for participants ages 6 and up that are able to hike at least one mile on sometimes uneven terrain. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Glow sticks will be provided, but a flashlight or headlamp is recommended. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle. Registration required.

This 60-minute Warm Water Pool class is designed to assist you in improving your strength and cardiovascular health. This light- to moderate-intensity class format combines body resistance and water exercise equipment with light to moderate aerobic exercise. During the 60 minutes of instruction, class participants will strengthen their major muscle groups as well as improve range of motion of all muscles and joints. Improvement of flexibility, balance, and stamina can be expected. The movements of cardio activity are diff erent for every class in order for your body to receive optimal benefit for your physical health!

Whether you are just starting with scuba or you already have some experience under your belt, come try our scuba party class in partnership with Donovan’s Hobby and Scuba. For the first part of the class, we will be teaching you the basic components of scuba diving in a classroom; and for the second part, you will be able to test your knowledge during this fun and exciting time under water.
