Parks and Recreation Administration
Parks and Recreation is responsible for maintaining public open spaces and for providing a quality system of parks and recreation facilities and positive leisure opportunities available to all persons in the community.
The park system consists of over 3,100 acres of parkland, made up of 80 parks and nearly 28 miles of River Greenway Bike Trail. Additionally, Parks and Recreation employees perform maintenance functions on other City-owned property such as street right-of-ways, storm water detention ponds, and drainage ways.
Falls Park is the namesake of our city and located in the heart of Downtown Sioux Falls. It is located on over 123 acres with an average of 7,400 gallons of water drop 100 feet over the course of the Falls each second.
Since 2010, Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation has been accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), which recognizes park and recreation agencies for excellence in operation and service.
