The City of Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department hosted a design competition in 2021 with the intent that the winning vision would lay the groundwork for the Falls Park Master Plan. The concepts produced paint many grand visions for what Falls Park could be. Why update Falls Park now?
The last master plan for Falls Park was completed in the 1990s. There has been a great deal of change in and around Falls Park since then and it is time to update the plan to ensure the City's namesake park continues to be a source of pride in the community.
What will be included in the new plan?
The Falls Park Master Plan will consider opportunities, challenges, needs, desires and preferences for the future of Falls Park. Leveraging public and stakeholder input will be the main influence in the creation of this plan. These conversations will provide guidance on growth and development, amenities and services, safety, transportation, mobility, connectivity, public improvements, and funding.
What is the study area of the Falls Park Master Plan?
The specific limits identified in the mapping activity and plan includes land owned by the City of Sioux Falls, dedicated solely to Falls Park. Opportunities for synergetic redevelopment of public and private lands will also be considered to ensure the plan establishes a comprehensive vision for the next 30 years.
When will the Falls Park Master Plan be completed?
The City and consultant team are embarking on a 10-12 month process to develop the Falls Park Master Plan. We invite the public to refer back to the project and interactive websites for opportunities to share Offering input and insights, market data, and review drafts of the Plan. The end result will include the City of Sioux Falls formally adopting the Falls Park Master Plan to serve as a guiding document for the City.
