Lane Closure – Western Avenue

Beginning on Wednesday morning, May 23, 2018, the outside northbound lane of North Western Avenue will be closed between Russell Street and West Rice Street.

Big Al’s Contracting will be installing a new sidewalk.

This work is anticipated to be complete by the end of the day on May 31, 2018.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed while travelling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

Phase 2 - Ellis Road Reconstruction
22nd Street to 41st Street

Beginning on Thursday, May 24, 2018, South Ellis Road from north of West 26th Street to south of West 22nd Street will be closed for reconstruction. Ellis Road from Lancaster Drive to West 41st Street will also be closed. This is Phase 2 of the Ellis Road Reconstruction project.

Phase 1 work from Lancaster Drive to 26th Street will continue to be closed. Traffic will be detoured from Ellis Road along 26th Street, Sertoma Avenue, and 41st Street. Local traffic west of Ellis Road be provided access at Stoney Creek, 22nd Street, 32nd Street, and Lancaster Drive. 26th Street will be open to traffic at all times during the project.

The project consists of reconstruction of a two lane rural section into a four lane concrete urban section with turning lanes. Work will include an eight foot shared use path along each side of Ellis Road. Utility work includes storm sewer, water main, and street lighting. The intersections at 26th Street and at 32nd Street will have traffic signals.

Ellis Road will be open to traffic fall 2018. Restoration work will be completed in 2019.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speeds while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

Lane Closures –
41st Street & Kiwanis Avenue

Beginning on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, the outside eastbound lane of West 41st Street will be closed at the South Kiwanis Avenue intersection. Additionally, the southbound through lane and northbound right turn lane on South Kiwanis Avenue will be closed south of West 41st Street. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on Kiwanis Avenue at all times.

This is the first phase of a multi-phase project to remove and replace the ADA accessible curb ramps at select intersections along the West 41st Street and South Minnesota Avenue corridors.

The overall project is anticipated to be complete by the end of August 2018.

Additional updates will be provided for future phases, however, drivers should expect outside lane closures along these corridors this summer. Access to businesses will be maintained.
