West 41st Street/South Marion Road Accident Investigation
Shortly after midnight on March 29, 2018, Police Officers of the Sioux Falls Police Department observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on South Marion Road from West 26th Street. The vehicle continued southbound and when officers arrived at the intersection of West 41st Street and South Marion Road, they observed that the vehicle had struck a fire hydrant and a light pole. The vehicle was located further down the street with the driver inside and unharmed. Damage to the fire hydrant caused a large amount of water to spray ten feet in the air and flow into the street.
An investigation was completed on scene, and the driver was arrested for several traffic‑related charges including DWI. There was an extensive amount of damage to the fire hydrant and the streetlight. More details will be provided at the morning press briefing.
