On Friday, June 1, 2018, officers of the Sioux Falls Police Department responded to the construction zone northeast of I-229 and East 26th Street regarding a suspicious device. Sioux Falls Police Department Bomb Squad arrived and located some old construction demolition explosives that were unearthed during construction. Due to the nature of the explosives, the Bomb Squad rendered them safe during the early morning hours of June 2, which created a loud noise, but there was no further damage. Several roads were shut down temporarily due to the event and are back open currently. Social media was updated during the event.
