Structure Fire at 218 North Spring Avenue
At 5 p.m. on April 1, 2018, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue (SFFR) responded to a structure fire at 218 North Spring Avenue.
Upon investigation, crews encountered a fire toward the rear of the home, with flames visible from the rear window. Crews conducted a primary and secondary search of the home and confirmed that all residents were out. SFFR personnel extinguished the fire in approximately ten minutes. Fire crews immediately established ventilation to remove the remaining smoke, and simultaneously removed a small portion of the exterior siding along with some interior overhaul to confirm there were no concealed hot spots or fire extension into the attic.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The American Red Cross was notified.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 18 personnel, 4 fire trucks, and 2 support vehicles. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
SFFR would like to thank the Sioux Falls Police Department, Paramedics Plus, Xcel Energy, MidAmerican Energy, the American Red Cross, and the SFFR chaplains for their assistance.
The home did not have a residential sprinkler system. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to have working smoke detectors and a practiced escape plan in the event of a fire emergency.
