Parole Absconder Arrested After Downtown Standoff
Around 1:15 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017, Parole Services contacted the Sioux Falls Police Department with information that a parole absconder from Rapid City may be in Sioux Falls. Around 2 p.m., officers found the parolee, 43-year-old Jeremy Hoeft, in a parked car outside the Downtown Library.
Hoeft refused to leave the car and mentioned to officers he had a weapon. Around 4:30 p.m., Hoeft surrendered peacefully. The car was checked and no weapons were found. Downtown traffic was closed to vehicles on North Main Avenue and North Dakota Avenue between Sixth and Eighth Streets during the duration of the standoff.
Jeremy Hoeft was arrested on a parole detainer and there were no new charges from this incident.
