Structure Fire at 4604 South Briarwood Avenue

At approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a report of a structure fire at 4604 South Briarwood Avenue.

A SFPD update before Fire Rescue crews arrived on scene advised a passerby noticed the outside of the resident’s garage on fire, stopped and alerted the homeowners, and made sure they were able to evacuate the house.

On arrival, crews reported “smoke on approach.” SFFR crews found fire on the corner of the garage, spreading upwards toward the roof. The fire was quickly extinguished and overhaul operations were started to confirm the fire had not spread to the interior of the garage or the home.

The fire’s cause is still under investigation. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with eight personnel, two fire trucks, and one support vehicle.

SFFR would like to thank SFPD, Paramedics Plus, and the passerby who alerted the residents for their assistance.

The home did not have a residential sprinkler system installed. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to have working smoke detectors and a practiced escape plan in the event of a fire emergency.
