Cook the Book―Try New Recipes

“Read the book, then sample some recipes,” is an invitation from staff at Siouxland Libraries Colton and Crooks Branches to a new program, Cook the Book.

Here’s how it works: Prior to each quarterly event, participants choose one of 10 printed recipes from the selected cookbook to make at home. Then they bring the results to share.

The first event will take place on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Colton Branch Library, located at 403 South Dakota Avenue. This quarter’s book is Amy Thielen’s The New Midwestern Table, which heralds a revival in the region’s cuisine. “The Midwest is rising,” writes the Minnesota native, who also hosts the Food Network’s Heartland Table. Thielen spent years cooking in some of New York City’s best restaurants; moving home in 2008 led to her rediscovery of the wealth and diversity of Midwestern cuisine.

 Recipes are available at the front desk of the Colton and Crooks branches.
