Big Sioux River Greenway Clean-Up Was a Success!

The City of Sioux Falls hosted the fourth annual community-wide Big Sioux River Greenway Clean-Up on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 2017. Nearly 500 volunteers of all ages helped clean up the river and its banks to ensure they were in top-notch condition for summer events and activities.

More than 6,500 pounds of litter were removed from the banks of the Big Sioux River and Skunk Creek at nine different volunteer locations. This was a record year for both the number of volunteers and the amount of material collected.

We appreciate all of the organizations who assisted with this year’s event, including Confluence, Health Management Partners of South Dakota, Smithfield, Raven Industries, Howalt + McDowell Insurance, Sioux Steel Company, Sierra Club, HDR, US Bank, FedEx, and the South Dakota Canoe and Kayak Association. Special recognition goes to Nyberg’s Ace for generously donating all of the supplies for the event.
