Fairytale Opera in the Park: Location Changed to Morningside Community Center
Due to the weather forecast, Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation announces a location change for Fairytale Opera in the Park to Morningside Community Center at 2400 South Bahnson Avenue.
Shows are scheduled for Thursday, June 29, at 7 p.m.; and Friday, June 30, 2017, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
“Theater in the Park is incredibly popular, we just hate to cancel. We needed to make the call early since the production requires involved intense setup,” says Susie Garry, Recreation Program Coordinator.
SOUNDS OF SOUTH DAKOTA, INC. Fairytale Opera in the Park presented by the Sounds of South Dakota, Inc. will feature The Three Feathers, composed by Lori Laitman, a new one-act children’s opera based on a fairytale by the Brothers Grimm. The story tells of a king who is aging and in need of finding a successor. He presents each of his three daughters with a feather that will lead them through three tests in order for one of them to earn the right to rule the kingdom. The youngest, most kind-hearted, and shy daughter Dora begins an adventure of a lifetime that takes her through the mysterious underworld of the Frog King where she encounters all sorts of magical creatures and challenges, leading her to ultimately discover her hidden strengths and to win the hearts and leadership of the kingdom.
