Looking for a challenge? We have one for you. Instead of hitting the trails for a 5K this summer, join Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation for one in the river! Not the Sioux River, but the lazy river at Drake Springs Family Aquatic Center. Enjoy the challenge of running a 5K against the current! Not interested in completing 44 laps on your own? No worries. Grab a friend and create a two-person or four-person relay. Open to first 100 registrants. Registration required. The Lazy 5K costs $8 per person. Register early for a T-shirt at register.siouxfallsparks.org using activity No. 888600. Registration closes five business days in advance.

The Great Cardboard Boat Race|
Kuehn Pool, 2501 South Kuehn Park Road, 367-POOL (7665)
Don’t laugh! Cardboard boats really can float! In fact, many boats raced three times at our previous events. Of those, we expect many will return and go for it once again. But here’s the catch: You may only use corrugated cardboard and duct tape. Use your imagination. Cardboard may be waxed. Here’s a hint: If you layer the cardboard, it will be much stronger. No wood, Styrofoam™, fiberglass, or plastic, except for your oars and paddles. All boats must be powered by humans seven years and older. Five age divisions. All boats will be judged based on creativity, sea-worthiness, and quickest to sink! Come join in on the fun and win some prizes. Each boat will need two participants: One at each end of the pool. Life jackets for this event will be provided by Parks and Recreation and must be worn by contestants. Swimsuits and registration required. The Great Cardboard Boat Race is free. Register at register.siouxfallsparks.org using activity No. 160009. Registration closes five business days in advance
