Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Announces Closure Dates for Outdoor Pools
Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation announces staggered closing dates for the outdoor aquatic facilities as the 2017 summer season wraps up.

|Sunday, August 13
||Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center
|Friday, August 18||Kuehn Pool|
|Sunday, August 20||Drake Springs Family Aquatic Center|
|Sunday, August 20||McKennan Wading Pool|
|Sunday, September 3||Terrace Park Family Aquatic Center|
“Many of the summer lifeguard staff will end their employment to head back to college or begin fall sports. The pool closing schedule allows the safe management of pools with the number of available staff. This year’s closing dates are consistent with our schedules from past years,” says Recreation Program Coordinator Jean Pearson. “Every year our goal is to keep one or two pools open until the Sunday prior to Labor Day.”
Beginning Monday, August 21, through the end of the outdoor pool season, hours of operation at the remaining outdoor pools will be:
- Monday through Friday, 4 to 8 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 8 p.m.
Pioneer Spray Park, located at 1800 East Walnut Street, will remain open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily into September, weather permitting.
Two fun events to close out the outdoor pool season are also planned. Swimming Gone to the Dogs will take place on the following dates and locations:
- Tuesday, August 15, 2017, 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center
- Wednesday, September 6, 2017, 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Terrace Park Family Aquatic Center
Please also note that indoor pools at the Midco® Aquatic Center will be closed August 7–13 to accommodate routine annual maintenance. For hours and information go to www.midcoaquaticcenter.org.
