Prairie West Branch Library to Host Children’s Book Week Events

As the longest-running national celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading, more than 650 schools, libraries, and bookstores will host official Children’s Book Week events from May 1 through 7 in all 50 states. May marks the 98th anniversary of the event. This year’s theme is “One World, Many Stories.”

Voting for the tenth annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards―the only book award voted on solely by kids and teens―has been in progress since March 3. Many locations will hold group voting in classes or libraries from May 1 through 7, when voting ends.

Siouxland Libraries Prairie West Branch, 7630 West 26th Street, will host the following Children’s Book Week events:

  • Wednesday, May 3, 3:15 p.m., The Imagineers: Explore your creative side with after-school adventures including stories and activities for kids Grades K to 5. Celebrate the joy of reading during Children's Book Week.
  • Saturday, May 6, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Elephant & Piggie Day: Celebrate Children’s Book Week with storytime at 10:30 a.m., followed by crafts, activities, and a big surprise!

Children’s Book Week is a cornerstone program of Every Child a Reader, a 501(c)(3) literacy charity dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of reading in children and teens across America. Other national programs include the Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards, Reading Without Walls, and the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, in partnership with the Library of Congress. Individual and corporate donations, grants, and the Children’s Book Council support Every Child a Reader.
