Structure Fire at 3610 East Sixth Street

On Monday afternoon, April 24, 2017, at 3:42 p.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a report of a garage unit on fire at 3610 East Sixth Street. A passerby reported the fire to 911.

Crews were able to see heavy smoke from blocks away. The first-arriving crew reported one unit in the apartment complex’s detached garage structure was fully involved in fire. Crews had to force the overhead doors in order to gain access. During the extinguishment of the fire, there was a partial roof collapse. The fire was under control in under 30 minutes.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with eight fire trucks, four support vehicles, and 32 firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted by Metro Communications, Sioux Falls Police Department, Paramedics Plus ambulance, Xcel Energy, and MidAmerican Energy.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to have an evacuation plan with two routes of egress and practice them with your family.
