Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup is Saturday, April 22
The City of Sioux Falls will host the fourth annual community-wide Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Pre-event registration is not required, and all ages are welcome. The cleanup event has removed more than 10,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from the banks of the Big Sioux River over the past three years.
“This annual event provides a great opportunity for family members, neighbors, friends, and co-workers to get together as a community and help protect the Big Sioux River. Show up any time between 9 a.m. and noon and donate as much time as you can. We’ll provide the supplies—all we need is you,” says Environmental Analyst, Matt Gedney.
Volunteers can choose which areas of the Big Sioux River Greenway they’d like to help clean up. Volunteer coordinators will be stationed at all nine locations. Gloves, maps, and trash bags will be provided. The following locations have been selected as meeting areas:
• Elmen Park Trailhead—3200 West 12th Street
• Falls Park—131 East Falls Park Drive
• Fawick Park—200 South Second Avenue
• Spencer Park—3501 South Cliff Avenue
• Yankton Trail Park—3901 South Minnesota Avenue
• Dunham Park—1301 South Marion Road
• Legacy Park—7001 West 12th Street
• Sertoma Park—4300 South Oxbow Avenue
• Rotary Park—2101 East 26th Street
A special thanks go to the following organizations for helping with this year’s event: Confluence, Health Management Partners of South Dakota, Smithfield, Raven Industries, Howalt + McDowell Insurance, Sioux Steel Company, Sierra Club, HDR, US Bank, FedEx, and South Dakota Canoe and Kayak Association.
