Annexation Task Force Announces Meeting Changes
The task force created to offer recommendations to the City Administration and City Council on how to improve the annexation process in Sioux Falls has changed its meeting location and schedule. The next meeting of the task force will take place in the Council Chambers at Carnegie Town Hall, 235 West Tenth Street, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. The public is welcome to attend. The meeting will be web streamed live on www.siouxfalls.org as well as televised live on cable channel CityLink.
All previously scheduled meetings will also be rescheduled and announced at a later date.
The task force was formed to offer recommendations regarding how to improve the annexation process. The task force will NOT address or propose annexations of specific properties or subdivisions in and around Sioux Falls. Only the full City Council has the authority to address annexations. Furthermore, if an area has an existing preannexation agreement with the City of Sioux Falls, the work this task force performs will not alter the existing agreement.
The task force will consider issues such as:
• Incentives intended to mitigate the financial costs to families and properties associated with annexation
• The criteria used to identify properties for City-initiated annexation and how those areas will be prioritized.
• Basic infrastructure standards for existing subdivisions annexed into the city
The task force includes three City Council members as well as four members of the community who are potentially impacted by proposed annexations. City employees from Planning, Project Management, Engineering, City Council, the City Attorney’s Office, and Finance provide information and are resources for the task force members.
