Injury Hit and Run
On April 6, 2017, Sioux Falls police officers responded to a reported hit and run accident in the 2600 block of West 41st Street. Witnesses reported to Metro Communications that a female driving a white Mercedes SUV had struck a pole in the parking lot and left the area.
An employee was able to provide a license plate for the suspect vehicle. A short time later, the suspect vehicle was located near South Minnesota Avenue and I-229. A traffic stop was attempted on the suspect vehicle, but the driver failed to yield to police at this time.
Assistance was requested from the South Dakota Highway Patrol in locating the vehicle as it fled northbound on Interstate 229. Officers from the Sioux Falls Police Department and South Dakota Highway Patrol located the suspect vehicle in the 4600 block of East Third Street. During this time, a motor vehicle accident was discovered near Kenny Anderson Park in the 3700 block of East Third Street. Evidence at the scene showed the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle in traffic driven by a juvenile female.
A 24-year-old female, Sarah Ann Sorenson, was located at her home residence and arrested. Suspect Sorenson was lodged at the Minnehaha County Jail for aggravated eluding, felony injury hit and run, DWI first, and other traffic-related charges. The juvenile female was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
