Paul Niedringhaus Named Director of Metro Communications Agency 9-1-1

Paul Niedringhaus has been selected to serve as the new Director of Metro Communications Agency. Niedringhaus will be responsible for managing the operations of Metro Communications, a consolidated public safety communications center responsible for the dispatch of all emergency services within the city and county.

Niedringhaus received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Augustana College and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He began working in the field of public safety in 1990 and brings great leadership experience to this position having served in multiple management roles throughout his 26-year career with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office where he last served as a Captain, Commander of Investigations.

“As a Captain with the Minnehaha County Sherriff’s Office for 26 years, Paul Niedringhaus developed many important relationships, not only in the local area, but throughout the state of South Dakota. These relationships will prove to be very valuable as the Director of Metro Communications. I have every confidence that his leadership qualities and ability to work collaboratively with the key stakeholders in the realm of emergency management will enable him to continue the vital work of the Metro Communications Agency,” said Metro Communications Agency Councilor and Sioux Falls City Councilor Rick Kiley.

He brings exceptional experience and leadership to this role and his prior law enforcement experience and established connections throughout the county, state, and region will be an asset to the Agency and those we serve,” said Metro Communications Agency Councilor and Minnehaha County Commissioner Dick Kelly.

Paul Niedringhaus states, “I look forward to working with the outstanding South Dakota professionals serving in law enforcement, fire rescue, ambulance providers, and emergency management both locally and statewide to ensure quality emergency response. Collaboration between all partners is essential to providing comprehensive public safety in our communities and I am excited for the opportunity to serve and lead this organization.”

The Director of the Metro Communications Agency is appointed by the Metro Management Council which includes members of the Minnehaha County Commission, Sioux Falls City Council, and the Mayor of Sioux Falls. This appointment is subject to final approval of the Metro Management Council on August 17, 2016. A start date has not yet been determined.
