PLA Inclusive Internship Initiative Program
Siouxland Libraries is a City/county public library system serving the city of Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County. We have 13 branches and a Bookmobile. We are a busy library system with yearly circulation over 2.5 million and over 3,000 programs for all ages.
Internship Tasks and Responsibilities
This internship will be an introduction to library services. The intern will experience a variety of tasks from working public service desks to helping with library programming. The intern will report to Senior Librarian Monique Christensen and will work with a variety of professional and paraprofessional staff.
Important considerations when applying:
- Applicant will be working at the Downtown Library unless otherwise assigned.
- Ability to travel to Washington, DC, June 14–16
- Ability to travel to Chicago, IL, September 28–30
With the mentor, the intern will develop a connected learning project to be completed over the summer. The intern is expected to spend dedicated time writing, reflecting, and sharing about their experience. The internship will run for approximately ten weeks. Interns will be paid $10/hour and may work up to 35 hours per week.
The library is looking for an intern who is passionate about serving the public and wants to increase their skills in this area. Applicants should be enthusiastic and willing to learn new things. Applicants must be entering their junior or senior year of high school or first year of college (fall 2018).
