Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded at approximately 11 a.m. to a kitchen fire at 824 1/2 South Second Avenue. First arriving units found light smoke coming from the second floor of a duplex. The firefighters that entered the duplex found that there was a small grease fire in a pan in the kitchen. The fire was already out. The second floor sustained minor fire damage and smoke damage.
The residents were outside the structure when fire units arrived on scene. One resident had suffered burns while trying to put out the grease fire with water. The resident was treated by firefighters and paramedics at the scene. The resident was transported to Avera McKennan Hospital. No firefighters were injured at the scene.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with three support vehicles, three fire trucks, and 16 firefighters. The duplex did not have a residential sprinkler system. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to never leave cooking unattended. |
