At approximately 9:45 PM October 15, 2009 Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at the Augustana Elmen Center at 2505 S. Grange Ave. First arriving crews found smoke coming from the south east area of the building. Fire crews entered the building, searched for occupants, and attacked the fire. The fire was brought under control in approximately thirty minutes.

The fire was contained to a sauna in the locker room area. The sauna sustained heavy fire damage and the adjacent areas sustained smoke damage. No civilians or firefighters were injured.

Five fire trucks, one command vehicle, two support vehicles, staffed by twenty four firefighters responded to the fire. The building does have sprinkler and alarm systems. The cause of the fire is electrical.
