Residents no longer need to wait until the second Saturday of the month to recycle electronics.
Year-round, residents can recycle electronics Tuesday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m.–noon, at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. The free electronics recycling event no longer takes place at Millennium Recycling. The HHWF is located at the corner of Cliff Avenue and Chambers Street—just north of Rice Street.
There is a limit of five (5) electronic items per drop-off. However, a computer unit (keyboard, mouse, CPU, monitor) counts as one item. This program is only for residential electronics from citizens located in Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, and Turner Counties.
Commercial, business, government, and institutional electronics will not be accepted. No microwaves or other appliances are accepted. Please see www.siouxfalls.org/green or call 605-367-8695 for more specific information on acceptable electronic items.
Since May 2004, the City banned a specific list of electronics from the landfill including computers and televisions. Many of the banned items contain hazardous substances such as solvents, mercury, lead, chromium, and brominated flame retardants. To date, the City has collected and recycled over 2 million pounds of electronics.
