On June 18 and June 25, 2008, FEMA advertised in the Argus Leader the start of the 90-day appeal period regarding proposed Base Flood Elevation (BFE) determinations.

Barring any technical appeals, these BFEs will become the best available data to be used for construction purposes on September 24, 2008.

The City of Sioux Falls will be hosting an open house to inform property owners about the proposed BFE maps on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Maricar Community Center; 400 North Valley View Road.

The open house will be set up with stations that will allow people to:

• View a video with background information (the video also will be available at siouxfalls.org).
• See the location of the floodplain in relation to their property.
• Ask questions about floodplain insurance.
• Get information on the Corps of Engineers and City of Sioux Falls levee system.
• Get a copy of a summary of map amendments/map revisions.
