Public Transit Advisory Board

The City of Sioux Falls has a strong interest in the development of a balanced and multi-modal transportation system. A healthy public transportation system plays an important role in preserving and improving the mobility of persons participating in the social and economic life of this community. The City Council acts as the project sponsor for federally-assisted transit improvements. The Public Transit Advisory Board (PTAB) was created to assist the council in matters concerning transit and paratransit so it can more effectively address issues in this area.

The Public Transit Advisory Board was established by Resolution No. 101-76 back in 1976. The Board’s purpose is to advise the council on public transportation issues. The Public Transit Advisory Board consists of seven community members representing private transportation, public transportation riders, advocates of the elderly and disabled, and representatives of the safety industry, school industry, and the general public.

The Public Transit Advisory Board members are appointed by the Mayor. The appointments are subject to the review and approval of the City Council. The appointments are for a three year term, and Board members are limited to two consecutive partial or full terms.
