Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether is a Yankton native who graduated from South Dakota State University in 1984 with a degree in commercial economics. He and his wife of 28 years, Cindy, are humbled to represent the good people of Sioux Falls.
The “First Lady of Sioux Falls” is also the Executive Director of the Sioux Falls Tennis Association. The Huethers were recently honored as the United States Tennis Family of the Year by the United States Tennis Association. Their daughter, Kylie, is the Project Manager for Sanford World Clinics.
Mike’s leadership skills were first honed by working 15 years for Citibank in South Dakota, New York, and Texas.
In 1999, Mike was hired to drive the development efforts of PREMIER Bankcard in Sioux Falls. After an enjoyable ten years of service, he resigned from his Executive Vice President position to focus full-time on earning the honor to become the Mayor of Sioux Falls. On May 17, 2010, he was sworn in as Mayor and captured a dream he had since the sixth grade. He was reelected for a second term in 2014.
The Mayor and his team are getting things done for Sioux Falls citizens by rebuilding roads, creating jobs, strengthening infrastructure, making air travel more affordable, improving quality of life, creating more indoor recreational opportunities, and building an events center for the city and state he loves. Mayor Mike knows that when we work together, there is absolutely nothing we can’t accomplish. This was truly evidenced by the April 2013 ice storm and how quickly we not only bounced back but also grew even stronger as a community!
In his “spare” time, Mayor Mike enjoys running, tennis, working on his yard, is an avid hunter, and attends as many potlucks as he can.
