Inside Town Hall

Inside Town Hall is a half-hour interview program designed to focus on current City Council initiatives and City projects, operations, or future plans of public interest.

The program is facilitated by a moderator. Inside Town Hall airs daily at 6:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 10 p.m. The objectives of Inside Town Hall are to increase awareness of the activities and deliberations of the City Council; provide information to the citizens of Sioux Falls on its services, facilities, functions, operations, and future plans of the City; and provide local government news not generally available through the existing broadcast media.

    Water Conservation with Assistant Director of Public Works Kevin Smith and Council member De Knudson - The City of Sioux Falls is engaged in public education programs to encourage the wise use of water. Effective May 29, 2008, all residents of the City of Sioux Falls must follow a new year-round odd/even watering schedule that also prohibits Noon - 5 p.m. watering every day. The City also continues to provide funding for our plumbing retrofit and rain sensor rebate programs to provide additional financial incentives for customers to replace older, inefficient devices in and around their homes. Sioux Falls Sports Authority with Executive Director Mike Sullivan and Council member De Knudson - The Sioux Falls Sports Authority was formed in 2006 by community leaders to recruit major sporting events to the Sioux Falls area. The organization attracts international, national, regional and state sporting events by operating, leasing, enhancing or owning sports facilities in the Sioux Falls area. It is run by a board of directors made up of 15 community members, an executive director and project director.

    Shape Sioux Falls - Jeff Schmitt, Assistant Director of Planning and Building Services, and Candy Hanson from Community Foundation and Sioux Falls Tomorrow discuss Shape Sioux Falls, a community-wide visioning initiative to help determine the Citys land use development standards. The objective is to define the vision for the future development of the City as a part of the planned update of the comprehensive plan. These land use design standards will then be incorporated into the City's planned update of the Zoning Ordinance. Underage Drinking and Driving Campaign - In 2006, 12 teenagers in South Dakota died in underage drinking and driving crashes. Dozens of family members mourned, hundreds of friends grieved, and the entire state lost a portion of its future. The Drug and Alcohol-Free Communities Coalition is sponsoring a special awareness campaign and video, drawing attention to the crisis of underage drinking and driving in South Dakota. Talking about this important topic is Darcy Jensen from Prairie View Prevention Services and Sgt. Galen Smidt of the Sioux Falls Police Department.

    Super precincts with City Clerk Debra Owen. Debra talks about why the City uses Super precincts in elections and who is running for City Council in April. Charter Revision Commission amendments that will be on the ballot with Dick Gregerson, Chair of Charter Revision Commission, and Lon Stroshein, Vice Chair of CRC. The Sioux Falls Charter Revision Commission, appointed in August 2007 by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council, has conducted twelve public meetings over the past five months and has proposed ten amendments to the current Charter. New electronics drop-off hours with Sanitary Landfill Superintendent Dave McElroy. Starting April 12, the free electronics drop-off event will be held monthly instead of semi-annually, and the hours have changed and are now 8 a.m. to noon.

The City and the County have entered into a joint agreement to create Metro Communications as a separate governmental agency funded 75% by the City and 25% by the County. The Agency is governed by a Metro Management Council made up of the Mayor, two council members and two County Commissioners. 2008 Street Construction projects with Assistant City Engineer Shannon Ausen and Assistant City Engineer Shannon VerHey. Galynn Huber, Street/Utility Manager gives us an update on the status of some road conditions within the city, and tells us what the street department is doing to help prevent these pavement pests.
