Request for Screening for Substantiated Reports of Abuse or Neglect
Effective July 1, 1988, South Dakota law allows unregistered family day-care providers and their adult family members who live in the home to request the Department of Social Services to screen their names against the Central Registry to determine if they have been convicted of child abuse or a sex offense. Effective July 1, 1993, screening may also be done to determine if those individuals have substantiated Abuse or Neglect reports which did not result in a conviction. This may only be done at the individual’s request and is not mandatory.
